School Information

The faculty and staff of Ridgemont Elementary School welcome students, parents, and community members to our school. By working together, we can ensure our students make great gains in academic achievements. Ridgemont was number one in West Tennessee, in 2007, for making the greatest gains on TCAP tests. The following procedures have been established in order to facilitate smooth operation of our school and ensure safety of our students.

Vision:

The vision of our staff is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for students; a school where parents, teachers, and community members work together to instill in each child the desire to learn and work to the best of their ability in order to become productive citizens with exemplary character.

School Opening and Closing Times:

The school doors are open for students to enter at 7:10 a.m. If a student arrives prior to that time, she/he will be required to go to the Extended School Program, which is located in the cafeteria, in order to be supervised. There is a fee that will be charged. Please drop car riders off in the rear parking lot because busses unload in the front of the building. Students are tardy if they arrive in class after the bell rings at 7:40 a.m.

Car riders are dismissed at 2:45 p.m. through the rear entrance. Please wait for your student in your car in line. If your student is not ready to load when you are at the door, you may be asked to pull into our temporary waiting lane. Please do not enter the building. Buses are dismissed at 2:50 p.m. School is officially closed at 3:00 p.m.

Parents/Visitors:

All parents and visitors are required to report immediately to the office through the front entrance. Visits to classrooms must be scheduled in advance when the teacher is not supervising students and cleared through the office. Guests must sign in and receive a pass in order to go to a classroom.

Communication:

Please make sure your child knows how he/she will get home from school each morning. Any change in your child’s normal routine should be communicated to the teacher by written note. Bus riders will not be allowed to ride a different bus without a note from the parent. Please do not call the school to change arrangements for your child. Any changes must be made in person by the parent or by written note.

Absences from school:

Students who are absent from school must have their parents or guardians contact the school by written note prior to the next school day. Failure to contact the school will result in an unexcused absence. Makeup work is the responsibility of the student. Students have the number of days absent, plus one, to make up work missed if the absence is excused. Zeros may be given for work not completed.

Tardiness:

Students who arrive at school after the 7:40 bell must report to the office to obtain an admission slip to class. After five tardies, per semester (excused or unexcused), the student will be required to attend Saturday School per offence.

School Closings:

At various times during the year, school may be cancelled or delayed due to bad weather. The Obion County Messaging System will notify you at your designated phone number of any calendar changes or closings. All notifications will also be announced on your local radio stations. ?For further information, please read the handbook sent home with your child.
